Kamala Nehru Zoo in Ahmedabad – Kamla Nehru Zoological Garden is famously known as Kamala Nehru Zoo is located at Kankaria, Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India. It is situated the outer border banks of the Kankaria lakes and lies on an area of 117 acres. Established in 1951 by the famous zoological expert, Ruben David.

The zoo was awarded the “Best Zoo in Asia” by 1974. The place is home to more than 500 animals including over 2000 birds, 160 reptiles. Also found here are some of the rarest mammal species, reptiles and birds like Tigers, Anacondas, Elephant, Indian Star Tortoise, White Peacocks, Pheasants, Spotted Deers, Pigeons, and American Alligator and so on. It also houses endangered species like Flamingos, Chinkara, Indian wild Ass, Asiatic Lion and Mouse Deer. The main aim of the zoo was recreation but now conservation of endangered species, education and research.

Annually, more than 200,000 people visit this zoo as it continues to attract more people in the world. Asides from just being a zoo alone, it has several side attractions in it. Like an amusement park, balloon safari, children’s park and so much more. Still considered to be the best zoological park in India, it is apt for outings, picnics with family and friends. With a continuous support from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and devoted staff giving it a personal touch of class.

The zoo also has an in-house veterinary hospital with modern facilities to ensure animals are well cared for. Entry to the zoo is free for children up to 3 years. Prices range from 5 rupees to 20 rupees between children above 3 years and adults. Visitors can see Heronry on trees of Zoo from time to time.
